Hungarian State Folk Ensemble
Lehman Center for the Performing Arts is proud to present Hungarian State Folk Ensemble.
Hungarian Rhapsody is a journey through time: from the present to the past, and back again. Though the world from where this music and dance originates has long disappeared, the message it bears is still relevant – that even today, in the midst of homogenized, superficial “global culture,” we still have a culture that is unique and eternal.

Take a spirited journey through time that captures the beauty and passion of this fascinating and storied culture through dance and live music. The Hungarian State Folk Ensemble is regarded as one of the top touring groups in the world for its incredible authenticity, strong emotion, and awe-inspiring technique. The Ensemble has performed in 44 countries across four continents and won the admiration of more than seven and a half million people. Colorful traditional costumes complement the dances and the extraordinary folk music that inspired Liszt, Brahms, Bartók, and Kodály. As a musical genre, it is characterized by its festive rhythms, strong emotion, impassioned surges of thought, and freedom of expression.

“It is marvelous- crackling with dancing that snaps like a whip in a program framed successfully by a sophisticated context.”
