Christmas Smiles For a Special School

As we turn a new leaf into the new year, and were in the spirit of the holiday’s, it is at this time that I am able to reflect on an amazing day at P.S.811X.The Sons of Italy, Uguaglianza lodge #83 and the Rotary Club of the Bronx, along with the smiles Organization were able to make over 800 children excited to celebrate the holiday season.

The day was celebrated with Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus going around to each classroom
to give each student a gift. The echo of excitement filled the room withsuch joy. There were many students with exuberant expression calling out “Santa is here, Santa is here, and he even brought Mrs. Claus. Words cannot describe the blissful moment that took place at P.S.811X, a school that serves autistic and challenged students. I saw one of the recipients,
in her wheelchair clinging on to her gift, swiftly moving back and forthand guarding it with her life. In the background you could see tearful emotions from the volunteers as they looked upon them.

Meanwhile, as we come to end the year 2013 and we celebrate with family, connecting with loved ones and relishing the gift of giving, quite frankly these are the moments that are too good not to acknowledge the purpose of the season. It seems the perfect setting to reveal the importance of the smiles that we received that day.
