New City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito is putting Hostos Community College in the news both today and tomorrow. Located in her newly mapped 8th District in the South Bronx on the Grand Concourse, Hostos CC will host the Councilwoman’s inauguration on Wednesday night at The Main Theater at the school’s Center for Arts & Culture.

Today, Mark-Viverito, who represents East Harlem, Port Morris and Melrose in the Council, announced today that the college’s president, Dr. Félix V. Matos Rodriguez, will join her transition team, which is tasked with assisting in the decision making process in hiring central Council staff. Matos Rodriguez is one of few Bronx based individuals and only president of an institution of higher learning on the team. Also representing The Bronx is Fordham alum John Calvelli, Executive Vice President of Public Affairs at The Bronx Zoo.
