State Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) and community leaders announced the details of a comprehensive gun violence prevention program at Jacobi Medical Center on Friday morning.

At the request of Senator Klein, the state’s Division of Criminal Justice Services allocated $300,000 in state funds for the program. Jacobi Medical Center Auxiliary, Inc. will run the cutting-edge outreach program that dispatches reformed criminals to gun violence hotbeds during prime crime hours.

As disputes arise on the street, SNUG’s street smart mediators from the program (known as SNUG) will help settle the disputes before violence erupts. The program’s experts will also pair high risk youth with education and job opportunities.

In addition to the $300,000 from the state, Jacobi Medical Center will donate $50,000 in services to supplement the program.
