The roof of the CVS at White Plains Road and Burke Avenue collapsed yesterday afternoon, leading to an early morning demolition of the building, as the roof collapse damaged the structural integrity of the entire building.

Arlene Draper, a member of Community Board 11 and resident of Parkside Houses, was coming from a tenant association when she heard the commotion last night.  The collapsed occurred in the late afternoon.

“I knew people who had been in there a few hours prior,” Draper said.  “We are at a loss right now.”

She stated the sentiment from neighbors was disappointment at the immediate prospect of the travel to E. Gun Hill Road or Allerton Avenue for the services the local pharmacy provided, which had a great reputation with local residents.

Speaking of an Allerton Avenue area CVS nearby, Draped lamented “You don’t get that same type of service there” as her local store, now in rubble as of 6 a.m. this morning, as the photo captured from ABC Eyewitness news above shows.
