Congressman Crowley Honors Pelham Parkway Area Heros Who Came To Fire Victims’ Aid

Congressman Joe Crowley held a ceremony yesterday at the 49th Precinct to honor locals for their rescue and recovery efforts in the aftermath of a devastating fire in Pelham Parkway in the Bronx.   A spirited ceremony was enjoyed by all who attended and lunch was provided free of charge from Throggs Neck’s Crosstown Diner.

While a number of individuals from the NYPD and FDNY and the community were honored, the highlight of the ceremony was the remarks from Ana R. Castillo (above), a resident of the building affected, honored for her efforts in helping her neighbors, who choked up thanking everyone who came to her aid in her time of need.

Joe Thompson, who heads the precinct’s community council as well as the White Plains Road Business Improvement District, was thanked not only by the Congressman but most of the other honorees as well, for his role in organizing the relief efforts.

On January 4, 2014 a fire badly damaged several apartments at 752 Pelham Parkway South. The second fire to take place in the building within the last five years, residents suffered a huge financial and emotional toll.  In the aftermath of the fire, food, clothing and furniture collections brought the local community together to help the affected families.
