“I Am The Son Of MLK’s Best Friend” Ralph Abernathy III Speaks Sunday In Wakefield

As part of Councilman Andy King’s 2nd State of the District presentation, remarks were given by Ralph Abernathy III, royalty in civil rights history as the son of Martin Luther King’s closest confident and partner in the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Rev. Ralph Abernathy Sr.  He spoke Sunday at the Greater Faith Temple (the old Wakefield Theater) on White Plains Road about the relationship of Civil Rights history with present day struggles, with attention given to education and nuitrition issues.

He highlighted labor unions, particularly 1199 SEIU, where the Councilman once worked and where his wife, Neva Shillingford-King, is a Vice President, as important instruments of change during the 1960s through today.
