Councilman Andy King’s 2nd State Of The 12th District Speech (With Video, And Guest Comptroller Stringer)

With members of the community, and special guests Comptroller Scott Stringer and activist Ralph Abernathy III on hand, Council Member Andy King outlined his key achievements, proposals, items of legislation, and ideas for the future of the 12th District, which includes the areas of Baychester, Wakefield, Co-op City, Edenwald and Eastchester in his 2nd State of the District speech Sunday.  (See our article on Abernathy’s speech here.)

King’s plan began with “Using the principles of Nehemiah to revitalize and beautify the 12th district.”

He then spoke about Improving the education system and expanding access to quality youth programs, as well as developing quality youth programs, later going call for the expansion of the Bronx’s “Connections Program”, a part of the Youth Empowerment Program.

King spoke about developing more affordable housing and working with NYCHA tenant leaders and advocates to resolve housing issues, and strengthening neighborhoods with infrastructure improvements of the business corridors, with the help of newly established merchant’s associations throughout the district

Before King’s remarks, special guest New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer spoke briefly about the Comptroller’s role in securing fairness and adhering to civil rights in city government, particularly in access to city procurement.
