The Chronicle Visits Wakefield’s Bissel Gardens’ Spring Cleanup With Councilman Andy King And New York Cares

Council Member Andy King and the Bronx Youth Empowerment Program teamed with New York Cares volunteers for the Bissel Garden’s Spring Cleanup 2014.  This morning, participants repainted murals, planted flowers and vegetables and raked in new woodchips to “spruce” up the grounds.

Councilman King spoke (below) about his experience this morning:

Garden volunteer Chuck Vasser speaks (below) about the history of the garden and its role in the local community.

New York Cares representative and Baychester resident Alisha Freeman (above) was out with her father and siblings giving back to the community, and spoke with us this morning about the many activities going on today and every weekend in the Cares program.

New York Cares, the city’s largest volunteer management organization, runs volunteer programs for 1,300 nonprofits, city agencies, and public schools.
