Bronx Democratic Officials Endorse Espaillat Over Rangel For Congress

The Bronx County Democratic Committee has chosen to endorse Washington Heights State Senator Adriano Espaillat  (l.) over Congressional elder statesman Charles Rangel, of Harlem, who has been under fire the past few years from a number of minor scandals, the most recently involving his administration not paying rent for their New York district office on time.  While the district was historically a Manhattan district, new lines established in 2012 have placed the majority of district residence in the borough of the Bronx.

Almost all Bronx elected officials, all members of the Democratic Party, came out to the announcement shown below on the steps of the Bronx County Courthouse on East 161st street.  Espaillat promised, among other things to open a District Office in the Bronx “on day one”.  See video of the event from News 12 below.

Yesterday, Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. went on NY1 and spoke about his reasons for choosing to endorse Espaillat, stemming from Congressman Rangel’s   He explained that we need “something different to happen” and pointed to the opportunity with new leadership in Washington.
