City Island Residents Respond On Bridge Traffic Signal Woes

City Island residents are up in arms about a new traffic signal on the mainland side of the bridge onto the island.  Locals complain accidents and delays are a result of the poor design.

“The traffic lights, which DOT calls ‘temporary,’ are in place because they closed down a pedestrian walkway on one side of the bridge during the installation of a temporary water main,” said Barbara Burn Dolensek, a local activist and Vice President and Administrator at the City Island Nautical Museum. “The DOT reports that it is necessary in order to allow pedestrians and bicyclists to cross City Island Avenue safely, but it is badly designed for the site and is causing accidents and all sorts of delays. “
