Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. was the keynote speaker at Monroe College’s 5th Annual “Male Empowerment” event yesterday morning. The purpose of the event is to inspire and embolden African American and Latino high school students to pursue an higher education options and a professional career.

“As a young Latino growing up, for me it was imperative to seek the guidance of my mentors to become the man I am today,” said Diaz. “We as leaders have to take the responsibility to educate and guide our minority youth through the right path so that they can achieve personal and professional success. Here in the Bronx we have an extraordinarily amount of talented students who I am glad to have met today. I know that each and every one of them are on their way to become contributing members of our society.”
