East Gun Hill Road, from Jerome Avenue to the New England Thruway (Southbound), has will become one of nine additional “Arterial Slow Zones” with implementartion occuring later this month. The speed limit will be lowered to 25 m.p.h. and traffic signals will be retimed to reduce opportunities for dangerous speeding. This change is part of a major expansion of slow zones under Mayor Bill de Blasio’s Vision Zero Initiative, an action plan that enages all communities to embrace creative solutions to traffic safety.
“I’m grateful that the 12th District will be utilizing this traffic safety initiative to reduce the speed limit on one of our busiest traffic corridors,” said Councilman Andy King, who represents the area.
