Shooting In Edenwald Yesterday Morning

A shooting in front of an Northeast Bronx elementary school yesterday morning has rocked the community.  The culprit has been aprehended.

“The community is grateful that the officers of the 47th Precinct were able to quickly respond and apprehend the suspect in the shooting of a man in Edenwald this morning.,” said local Council Member Andy King..  “This senseless act of violence will not be tolerated in our community. From this moment on, criminals who have the audacity to commit senseless street assaults and gun violence will be found and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law!”

“The broad daylight shooting unfolded shortly before 9 a.m. outside P.S. 112 Bronxwood on East 229th Street at Schieffelin Avenue and sparked fear among students and parents there.

The shooting also came as the 47th Precinct had seen a dramatic increase in shootings — up 91 percent so far this year from 11 to 21, according to NYPD data.

The 45-year-old victim, who was not immediately identified, was on the corner of East 229th Street near Schieffelin Avenue when the shooter got out of a car and fired at him twice, police said. The shooter returned to his car, but came back a short time later firing at the victim again.

The shooter than took off driving in an unknown direction, according to police.”

Councilman King’s reaction:

“I first want to extend my condolences to the family of the man who was shot this morning in Edenwald.  I am outraged at the horrific shooting that took place outside of a school with innocent kids, teachers and staff inside,” said Councilman King. ” I will do all I can to assist NYPD and other authorities in combating this epidemic of gun violence in our community.
