Jimmy Vacca, who chairs the City Council’s Technology Comittee, took a trip down to Brooklyn yesterday to participate as a judge in the city’s BIGAPPS 2014 competitiion in Gowanus, where hackers, programmers and tech gurus compete for a total of $80,000 in prizes for developing socially beneficial computer and mobile applications. The event was organized by city’s Economic Development Corporation as well as HR&A Advisors, a real estate development consultancy. [Fun fact for the local Bronx news lovers: Former beloved local journalist and one time Vacca aide Bret Collazzi is an analyst at the firm.]
Vacca and the other judges were tasked with selecting one winner in each Grand Prize Category [1. Best Live App, Best Work App, Best Learn App, Best Play App] as well as other special categories. Awards will be given in September. Check out more info on BIGAPPS 2014 here.
