“Today, it is with great faith and courage that I join my brothers and sisters in the Nigerian communities across the 12th Council District, the city, and around the world, in prayer for the end of the disturbance in their homeland and the safe return of the more than 200 kidnapped Nigerian schoolgirls,” said Council Member Andy King, (D-12th CD, Bronx) co-chair of the Black, Latino and Asian Caucus. “Friday’s announcement suggests, at the very least, that after 6 months the kidnapped schoolgirls are still alive. We stand in prayer, that in the coming hours and days, that a ceasefire agreement with the Islamic extremist group Boko Haram is carried out and the Chibok schoolgirls are returned home to their families. As talks resume in Chad this week, we all must continue to be courageously optimistic until “#BringBackOurGirls” is a reality.”
