Police Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu: Hero Police Officers Assassinated

Only hours after two New York policemen were ambushed and executed in Brooklyn in what is believed to be a revenge killing, 17 year old, Raymond Leonardo of the Bronx pointed a gun at two police officers during a pursuit late Saturday night.

Around 9 p.m. last night, two police officers belonging to a Violence Reduction Unit for the 40th Precinct were at a foot post in Mott Haven on 140th Street and Cypress Avenue when they heard approximately six gunshots.

Beginning to search the area, a witness told the officers where Leonardo was standing. When the officers approached him, he began to flee on foot towards 138th Street and Bruckner Boulevard, according to cops.

Cops found Leonardo hiding behind a truck on Bruckner Boulevard and ordered him to drop the gun. That’s when Leonardo pointed his .357 revolver at one of the officers. Fortunately the revolver did not shoot and police found 6 empty shell casings.

Leonardo was arrested and charged with menacing a police officer, reckless endangerment, and criminal possession of a weapon. There were no other reported injuries, police said.
