SENATOR KLEIN DONATES MORE THAN 2,000 TEXTBOOKS TO STUDENTS OF P.S. 107

tate Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester), together with Assemblyman Marcos Crespo (D-Bronx), today visited P.S. 107 to donate more than 2,000 textbooks and e-readers to students for the holidays. Upon arrival, Senator Klein was met with a welcome reception in the auditorium, featuring a special holiday performance by the school choir. Senator Klein then visited with numerous classrooms grades K-5, and took a tour of the elementary school’s library and science laboratory.

“During this special time of the year, I am both happy and proud to be able to give back to students in our community. P.S. 107 is an outstanding school, one that provides a solid foundation for countless children, helps them to tap into their talents and prepares them for future success,” said Senator Jeff Klein. “You may not know this, but history is my favorite subject. I hope that through their education, these students will learn and grow and find their passion, much like I did. Thank you all for having me here today, and a special thanks to Principal Katherine Hamm.”

“Thank you to Senator Klein for donating these textbooks to the students here at P.S. 107. This donation means a great deal to our school, to our community and most importantly, to our children. With these new books and e-readers, students will be able to learn in new ways and teachers will be able to expand their curriculum,” said Katherine Hamm, Principal of P.S. 107. “During the holiday season, it’s gifts like this that really make a difference.”

Senator Klein was able to secure state funding for the new textbooks and e-readers as part of Project BOOST (Building Options and Opportunities for Students). Project BOOST is an enrichment program that serves both elementary and middle school students, focusing on providing academic, cultural and community service learning opportunities for kids.
