ACCUSED SUBWAY PUSHER INDICTED FOR MURDER, MANSLAUGHTER

Kevin Darden Faces 25-to-Life if Convicted in Killing of Wai Kuen Kwok

(Bronx, NY – January 12, 2015) – It was an event that rocked not only New Yorkers, but people worldwide – the violent death of a subway commuter at the hands of a stranger, pushed onto the tracks in front of an oncoming train.  Bronx District Attorney Robert Johnson announces that today, 34-year-old KEVIN DARDEN was indicted on the charges of Murder in the 2nd Degree and Manslaughter in the 1st Degree in the death of fellow Bronx resident WAI KUEN KWOK.

The incident took place Sunday, November 16th, at the subway platform at Grand Concourse and East 167th Street, shortly before 9 in the morning as KWOK and his wife waited for a southbound D-train.

Police identified DARDEN as a person of interest in the case with the use of surveillance video, and he was taken into custody two days later.

The defendant was arraigned in Bronx Supreme Court before Justice George Villegas on the Grand Jury indictment, pled not guilty and was remanded.  If convicted at trial, KEVIN DARDEN faces a sentence of 25-years-to-life in prison.

The case against DARDEN is being prosecuted by Senior Trial Assistant D.A. Theresa Gottlieb and was adjourned to April 6, 2015, in Part 77.

The charges contained in the indictment are allegations; the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
