TOMORROW 12:30 PM: KLEIN, BENEDETTO, VACCA TO CALL ON NYC DEPARTMENT OF HOMELESS SERVICES TO BAN SEX OFFENDERS FROM FAMILY HOMELESS SHELTERS

Legislation would ban level two and three sex offenders from shelters where families with children reside

BRONX, NY – Senate Independent Democratic Conference Leader Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester), together with Assemblyman Michael Benedetto (D-Bronx), Councilman Jimmy Vacca (D-Bronx), members of Community Board 10, the Ferry Point Park Civic Association and Friends of Ferry Point Park will hold a press conference TOMORROW, January 23, at 12:30 PM to call on the New York City Department of Homeless Services to ban level two and three sex offenders from temporary emergency housing and homeless shelters used to house families with children.

This renewed call comes in response to shocking revelations and widespread press reports that two sex offenders currently reside at the Crystal Family Residence, a new 95-room family shelter and former location of the controversial Capri Whitestone Motel. Senator Klein’s legislation (S.S851-2015) would prevent dangerous sex offenders from being housed in family shelters and require by law that they be placed in adult-only shelters or shelters without children.

WHAT: Press Conference to call on the New York City Department of Homeless Services to ban level two and three sex offenders from homeless shelters used to house families with children.

WHERE: Across from the Crystal Family Residence, 555 Hutchinson River Parkway, Bronx, NY 10465.

WHEN: TOMORROW, Thursday, January 23, at 12:30 PM.
