Council Member Andy King Talks to Shoppers About Proposed Bill to Reduce Plastic Bag Waste

Tote bags

Council Member Andy King (12TH District/Bronx) partnered with the Citizens Committee for New York City on Tuesday, Feb 3rd, to hand out reusable tote bags to shoppers near the Stop & Shop in Co-op City. During the tote bag giveaway, Council Member King gaged constituents’ responses to using reusable bags when shopping. The City Council’s Committee on Sanitation and Solid Waste Management is reviewing proposed legislation to reduce plastic bag waste in New York City. Under Bill 209-2014, New York City stores would implement a minimum 10 cent charge for every single-use bag (paper or plastic). Store owners retain the charge. Council Member King is a member of the committee.
