Introducing The Bronx Chronicle’s New Managing Editor, Michael Benjamin

Since its inception by a team of passionate Bronxites in October 2013, The Bronx Chronicle has been an evolving and independent source for interest, news, and events across the borough.

Each member of the Chronicle team comes from a different walk of life, bringing with them skills and perspectives unique to their experience.

Since joining the team in December 2013, Omesh has taken what was once a concept in infancy and expanded it to an exciting and interactive experience that continues to broaden our recognition & presence across the borough in droves through his brand development, website direction and editorial management.

When I first met Omesh, it was clear to me that he was a studious and passionate self-starter, demonstrating exactly the kind of energy I wanted to help drive the Chronicle. Since that day, he has become someone I trust implicitly, and will continue to affect not only the Chronicle, but the lives of its team as well.

With that self-starting and entrepreneurial nature comes an ongoing drive to create and improve, and Omesh has decided to step away from editing duties at the Chronicle to pursue other endeavors in his brand management business.

Omesh, as The Bronx Chronicle’s Brand Manager & Website Director, will continue to be an integral member of the team.

michael_nMoving into the role as Managing Editor will be former Bronx Assemblyman Michael Benjamin.

I have wanted to bring Michael on board for some time, as I have been impressed by his transition from thoughtful elected official to prolific news commentator, columnist and blogger. I am very pleased that Michael has agreed to bring his talents to The Bronx Chronicle.

Michael has demonstrated the skills and drive necessary to continue our envisioned evolution to a ubiquitous borough-wide news organization covering diverse communities and issues. I saw Michael as the perfect candidate for bringing the experience and organization necessary to make that happen through a continued broadening of our coverage and online readership

Since stepping down from the State Assembly (2003-2010), Michael has pursued a career as a public affairs consultant and contributing columnist to the NY Post, City and State NY, and other publications. His columns focus on corruption, government, education, politics, redistricting, nuclear energy and race. Shortly after leaving office, Michael collaborated with the Rockefeller Institute on Government and City and State NY on an orientation program for new legislators.

Michael, a native Bronxite, attended the Bronx High School of Science before graduating from Syracuse University with a degree in political science. He served as deputy chief clerk at the Bronx Board of Elections from 2002-03. His work history includes assignments with Members of the New York State Assembly, New York City Council and the United States Congress as well as Affinity Health Plan (The Bronx Health Plan).

Michael is a member of the New York Press Club and the NY Association of Black Journalists.

Please join me in welcoming Michael Benjamin to The Bronx Chronicle.
