Families for Excellent Schools Kicks Off “Ten Days of Possible” Countdown to Showcase New Yorkers Standing Up for Bold Change

Ahead of March 4 Parent Rally in Albany, Families for Excellent Schools Kicks Off “Ten Days of Possible” Countdown to Showcase New Yorkers Standing Up for Bold Change

Campaign Will Highlight and Celebrate What “Possible” Means for NY’s Children

#DontStealPossible

New York, NY – Families for Excellent Schools announced Monday the kick-off of “Ten Days of Possible,” a countdown toward a major parent rally to end New York’s failing schools crisis on March 4th in Albany. Ten Days of Possible is a social media campaign that will bring together the voices of hundreds of parents, students, teachers, artists and other celebrities from across New York to celebrate the power of great schools and highlight the need to bring an end to the failing schools crisis.
The Don’t Steal Possible campaign began this past October with a gathering of 21,000 parents in New York City’s Foley Square, and by early January had collected more than 75,000 online signatures for an online petition to end the crisis. Across New York State, 800,000 children are failing to meet grade standards, and 250,000 students—predominantly low-income students of color—are trapped in failing schools.

The rally on March 4th will call on state leaders to move beyond bureaucratic tweaks and make bold, structural change to end the crisis. More than 80 schools across New York State are expected to attend, along with parents from traditional NYC public schools.

Families for Excellent Schools harnesses the power of families to advance policy and political changes that create and sustain excellent schools.
