COUNCILMAN ANDY KING ON THE PASSING OF ANTHONY MASON

NYC Council Member Andy King said Saturday that Anthony Mason, who lead his hometown Knicks for five of his 13 NBA seasons, “showed us that a neighborhood kid from Springfield Gardens, Queens, can make it to the big league.”

“We lost not just a basketball legend but a man who didn’t forget where he came from and returned to New York City to motivate others,” said Council Member King, co-chair of the Black, Latino & Asian Caucus.

Council Member King added that he met Mason shortly after his retirement and they discussed business and community endeavors Mason was looking to pursue.

Council Member King said he and his wife, Neva Shillingford-King, join Mason’s family and countless fans in mourning his death.
