Multiple sources, including Bronx Chronicle columnist Anthony Rivieccio, are reporting that the executive committee of the Bronx Democratic Party meets tonight to elect Assemblyman Marcos Crespo as chairman of the executive committee, i.e., county leader. Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz, chairman of the Bronx Democratic County Committee and executive committee vice-chair will nominate him. Crespo will replace Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie as head of the Democratic organization.

Gerson Borrero, a journalist with City & State NY, reports that Crespo’s nomination will be seconded by his “BFF” Council Member Vanessa Gibson and 85th Assembly District female leader, Antonia Figueroa. In order for that to happen, though, a member of the executive committee will have to turn over his/her speaking time to Ms. Gibson. In an interview with Borrero, Crespo said that he expected the vote to be unanimous.

“I am not aware of any other candidate. I’ve reached out and spoken to everyone. I do expect a unanimous vote,” Crespo said.

Rivieccio says he has an exclusive interview with Assemblyman Dinowitz which we will post tonight after the Bronx organization’s coronation of Assemblyman Crespo.

Assemblyman Crespo represents the 85th Assembly District (Soundview/Clason Point) and chairs the Assembly’s Puerto Rican/Hispanic Taskforce. Crespo’s ascension to county leader comes just two weeks before he presides over the Taskforce’s statewide Somos El Futuro conference in Albany, March 20-22.

It seems the Bronx keeps giving New Yorkers reasons to celebrate and party.
