Perfect Harmony of Harlem and the Bronx with BxArts Factory and El Barrio Pinta!

IMG_0867Back in February, The Bronx Chronicle reported about the launch reception for BxArts Factory. Even though it was still in its infancy, their vision and innovation was strong.

About five months later, it is obvious that this is still true.

IMG_0855On June 25th BxArts Factory teamed up with El Barrio Pinta! at the Bronx Beer Hall for an evening that featured the murals from their Tasting the World Mural Match back in May. Along with superb craft beer was delicious food from the Arthur Avenue Terminal Market while DJ LexNY and DJ Junior Sojal Fortune kept the dance music going.

The main attraction of El Barrio Pinta se va pa’ El Bronx were the live paintings done by Karen Pedrosa (KayLove), Kacer171, and Giannina Gutierrez (Art by Gia).

Giannina Gutierrez is also the founder of El Barrio Pinta!, a monthly event that is open to artists to foster networking and community engagement. Gutierrez started El Barrio Pinta! in June of 2009 at Camaradas El Barrio. “My intention is to provide a non-competitive platform for artists of all levels, artisans, and deejays to join creative forces while driving business into my favorite local spot.” said Gutierrez when describing her vision when starting up El Barrio Pinta!. “The idea is to create a warm and inviting environment of art, music, and camaraderie. Artists get to keep all their profits in addition to the opportunity to collaborate and network.”

IMG_0845“We asked her to come to the Bronx and she immediately said yes.” said Laura Alvarez, Vice President of BxArts Factory.

This will not be the last time that BxArts Factory and El Barrio Pinta! join forces as they are planning to work together for Boogie on the Boulevard this August.

When asked if she had any future plans for El Barrio Pinta!, Gutierrez replied with, “I look forward to expanding into all “barrios”. I will definitely be back in the Bronx!”

BxArts Factory has many events coming up this summer, including “Art in the Bar” at the Gun Hill Brewing Company on July 12, 19, and 26 (event info can be found here).
