COMPTROLLER STRINGER TO KICK OFF RED TAPE COMMISSION WITH BRONX HEARING

Small business owners to testify about bureaucratic barriers and challenges

Tonight, New York City Comptroller Scott M. Stringer’s Red Tape Commission will hold the first of its five borough hearings at Hostos Community College in the Bronx.

The Red Tape Commission, an initiative to identify roadblocks that frustrate business owners, discourage innovation and block efficiency, is co-chaired by Jessica Lappin of the Downtown Alliance and Michael Lambert of the Bed-Stuy BID. Joined by business leaders, entrepreneurs, and regulatory experts, the Commission seeks to engage business owners and community leaders in a conversation about challenges and potential solutions for small businesses to thrive in New York City.

The Bronx hearing is co-hosted by Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr, the Bronx Chamber of Commerce, and the New York Hispanic Cosmetology and Beauty Chamber of Commerce. Attendees are invited to testify about their experience navigating city codes and requirements, and difficulty in overcoming other barriers as they seek to get their businesses off the ground.
