Scott Monroe Sterling, a rapper who performed as DJ Scott La Rock, was shot and killed while trying to diffuse a love triangle at a housing project in the South Bronx. He was 25.
A former social worker, DJ Scott La Rock formed Boogie Down Productions with rapper KRS-One. (The group’s 1987 debut, Criminal Minded, is a hip-hop classic.) He left behind an infant son.
La Rock’s death played a major role in fueling the hip-hop community’s Stop the Violence Movement.
