Local 372 President Shaun D. Francois I. and District Council 37 Executive Director Henry Garrido visited two Bronx public schools on Friday. The visit was designed to show appreciation for the hard working School Lunch Helpers and School Aides and also to listen to their demands and concerns.
The schools visited, I.S. 219 The New Venture School and Mott Haven Community High School, are schools that have one of the largest nutrition programs in the New York City public school system. These titles work together to maintain the flow of the health and safety of the students, while providing nutritious breakfast and lunch to hundreds of students daily . Visiting schools was one of the campaign promises that President Francois is holding true to his word.
President Francois stated that “ I will continue to tour the schools to converse with my members and listen to their concerns. Local 372 will soon have a mobile office to assist myself and my legislative staff in my travels. If my members are having difficulties coming to me, then I will go to them to render needed services. When it comes to our School Lunch Helpers, we are pushing for Universal Lunch at every school. The kitchen staff and the School Aides will benefit from Universal Lunch due to increase of students it will bring, which will in return will keep their job secured.”
Executive Director Henry Garrido stated “It is always rewarding for me to visit our public schools and talk with the children of our communities and the school staffers who provide them with a warm educational setting. At a time when public education is under attack, it is more important than ever to highlight the role that public schools and their dedicated staff play in the intellectual development of our children.”
Local 372 represents 23,000 non-pedagogical New York City Board of Education Employees. Our member titles; School & Health Aides, School Crossing Guards, Parent Coordinators, School Lunch Helpers, S.A.P.I.S. Counselors, Community Coordinators, School Neighborhood Workers, Paraprofessionals, ensure the health and safety of 1.1 million NYC public school students. Local 372 is under District Council 37, AFL-CIO and AFSCME.
