It was a touching evening at Good To Go Restaurant as EF Sports and the Bharati Dance Academy held its 3rd Annual Cancer Awareness and Honoring of Survivors charity event where families, friends and community members came together to shine a light on Cancer, the general name for a group of more than 100 diseases that start because abnormal cells grow out of control.

Throughout the event, Eliu and Bharati emphasized on the importance of being aware and spreading the message of how serious the disease is. They continued to say that each year the charity serves as a reminder that they are with every survivor and even the families who have lost a loved one to the fight. “As a community, we continue to give hope and show a strong spirit because this is what every person needs,” says Bharati S. Kemraj, Founder of the Bharati Dance Academy. “We bow our heads to pray for those affected and we will continue to be a foundation for every survivor, both men and women who may need a steady ground during their rough battle,” added Eliu Feliciano, CEO of EF Sports, Inc.

“Go out and get your regular checkups. Ask questions and do not be afraid to talk about what you are going through,” says Nitisha Moore, The Bronx and Westchester Recruiter Team Leader at the American Cancer Society. Her words echoed throughout the room and brought tears to many as she spoke and mentioned “I am a Survivor of Lung Cancer and I have never smoked a day in my life…”

Honorees included Jaime who represented her Aunt and Kari who stood strong for her Mother. Both the Aunt and Mother are survivors of Cancer (couldn’t be at the event) and each year they do all they can to support the cause and continue the fight. The individual who shared her story and touching moments from the time she was diagnosed to the time that she started losing her hair from the chemo treatments was Khemrajie Harry. To many, Khemrajie is a phenomenal woman, filled with energy and determination who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 and she still carries a positive attitude. Today, Khemrajie continues to follow up with her doctor and shares her story as a voice to remind everyone to check themselves and get regular mammograms because it was early detection that made it so much easier for her to know what was going on with her body. “I was so scared. I cried all the time. Even now, I am scared because I don’t want to lose my hair again and go through all the treatments. I pray a lot and I want everyone to know about this sickness,” says Khemrajie as she wipes away a tear…
