Last Wednesday, Walgreens in conjunction with Community Board 10 administered flu shots to approximately 30 community residents. Shot were administered to residents who came to the office on Temont Avenue and to residents at the Northeast Bronx Senior Center as well as the Fort Schyuler House. The vaccinations at the Northeast Bronx Senior Center and Ft. Scyuler House were able to be done trough the outreach by District Mangager Ken Kearns and Community Board 10 staff.

The staff from Walgreens included Pharmacy Manager, Doctor Maria Troia and Cynthia Ruiz, Shift Leader. Both were exceptionally knowledgeable, professional and friendly in speaking to residents of the community and community board staff. Dr. Troia expressed her dedication to providing health services to the community. She advised this columnist that Walgreens provides four community service events per year.
Dr. Troia said, “Walgreens is happy to provide charity vouchers for free flu shots for the uninsured. Walgreens has an ongoing program Get a Shot, Give a Shot, which means for each flu vaccine given, Walgreens will give a free vaccination to those in need. We are excited to partner with our local Bronx Community Board 10 to provide this service to out community.”She also encouraged people to spread the word on the importance of flu shots by using the hashtag #giveashot on social media.
Ms. Tameka Santiago, a resident of Country Club and an Occupational Therapist for the NYC Department of Education said, “Being a mother of two, a flu shot is important so that I can stay healthy and care for my family.”

In speaking to Dr. Bridget Cangelosi Bednarik at the CVS pharmacy located at 3681 Bruckner Blvd. she informed this columnist that CVS recently provided flu shots at a church and at a local senior citizen center.
