Center for Family Support Fundraising Drive To Assist A South Bronx Youngster

South Bronx Youth Needs Educational Supports to Succeed

Bronx, NY  –  Tony J is a handsome, kind young man with intellectual disabilities, who lives with his mother, Sharon, in the South Bronx.  The Center for Family Support (CFS) has supported Tony and his Mom for his entire life and due to this support, Tony is attending middle school and recently started taking karate classes.  His mom is thrilled that he has found a new passion in the martial arts and is focused on earning higher ranking belts.

Tony and his Mother, Sharon, enjoy a day at Coney Island, compliments of The Center for Family Support as part of ‘staycation’ package they provided for them this summer.

Tony and his mom have a loving bond. Tony’s mother also has intellectual disabilities and has had significant health issues herself, making it difficulty to provide an environment which supports his educational needs.  Despite efforts by CFS to support the family, Tony has had a difficult transition to middle school and his grades have reflected this.   His intellectual disabilities make it difficult to manage his emotions and as such, he has limited social relationships.

CFS would like to help Tony create an environment, which reinforces learning in his home, and provides a place where he can complete his assignments in a special area complete with a desk, desktop computer with software, and a small bookcase with books, chosen to help him excel in the classroom.  The family’s income does not provide for these items and therefore, CFS is looking for donations to help fund this endeavor.

The Center for Family Support is a registered 501c3 charity, committed to providing support and assistance to individuals with developmental and related disabilities, and to the family members who care for them.

If you are interested in making a donation to CFS to brighten Tony’s holiday, kindly contact Barry Haber, CFS Development Director at 212-629-7939 ext. 279.
