A schedule featuring six home games on Jack Coffey Field, a game at Yankee Stadium and a road game at Navy, highlights the eleven-game 2016 Fordham University football schedule released on Monday.

The 2016 season, Fordham’s 116th of varsity football, will be the first for head coach Andrew Breiner, who took over the Rams last December after serving for four years as the Fordham offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach. He will look to continue to build on Fordham’s past success which includes:

  • Three straight NCAA Championships appearances
  • A 32-8 record over the past three years/23-2 at home over the past four
  • 42 consecutive weeks ranked in the NCAA FCS Top 25

The highlight of the schedule is the annual Ram-Crusader Cup game with Holy Cross which will be played this year at Yankee Stadium on November 12. The game will be the 54th between the two Jesuit schools with Fordham leading the all-time series, 28-23-2, having won the past four matchups.

The Fordham-Holy Cross game will mark the 22nd time the Rams will play in Yankee Stadium. Fordham is 12-8-1 all-time at the park and faced Holy Cross there once, in 1923, a 23-7 Crusaders win. The last time Fordham appeared at the old Yankee Stadium was on November 16, 1946, when the Rams faced NYU.

Breiner will open his first season on the sidelines for the Rams on Saturday, September 3, as the Rams travel to Annapolis to face Navy in the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium at 12:00 p.m. The game will be televised on the CBS Sports Network. It will be the second ever meeting between Fordham and Navy with the Midshipmen winning the first meeting, 21-0, in Annapolis in 1914.

On September 10 the Rams welcome Elizabeth City State University, an NCAA Div. II school, to Jack Coffey Field for the Rams’ home opener.

After a bye week, Fordham hosts Penn on Jack Coffey Field on September 24 as part of Homecoming 2016. It will be the third straight year the Rams and Quakers have met, with Fordham winning all three contests.

Following the Penn game, the Rams travel to West Long Branch, N.J., to face Monmouth University from the Big South on October 1.  It will be the third meeting between the Rams and the Hawks with each team winning once. The Rams took last year’s matchup, 54-31, on Jack Coffey Field.

The Rams open Patriot League play on Saturday, October 8, as they host the Lafayette College Leopards on Jack Coffey Field. Fordham has won three of the past four meetings with the Leopards, including a 35-7 victory at Lafayette last fall.

Fordham closes out its non-conference slate the following week by hosting Yale University on October 15, the eighth meeting between the two schools, the first since 2013 when Fordham traveled to New Haven and defeated the Eli, 52-31.

The Rams return to league play on October 22 by hosting the Georgetown University Hoyas on Jack Coffey Field as part of Family Weekend. It will be the 59th meeting between the Rams and the Hoyas with Fordham, who has won the past four matchups, leading the all-time series, 35-20-3.

Fordham goes back on the road the following week, traveling to Easton, Pa., to face the Lehigh University Mountain Hawks in Goodman Stadium on October 29. The Rams have won the past three meetings with the Mountain Hawks, including a 59-42 victory on Jack Coffey Field last year.

The Rams close out the home portion of the regular season schedule the following week when defending Patriot League champions, Colgate University, pays a visit to Jack Coffey Field on November 5. The Rams will be looking to atone for their lone league loss last year at Colgate.

Following the Holy Cross game at Yankee Stadium on November 12, Fordham closes out its regular season on November 19 with a trip to Lewisburg, Pa., to take on the Bucknell University Bison. The Rams have taken the past three meetings with the Bison, including a 24-16 win on Jack Coffey Field last November.
