The free event, which is open to the public, will be held from 11am to 3pm at Phipps Neighborhood Recreation Center at Crotona Park.

Jumpstart works with local education and community partners to provide under-resourced communities with an early learning center where enrolled preschool children can receive fundamental language, literacy, and social-emotional skills and support to better prepare them for success once they enter school. The event on April 16 will help inform local parents of the availability of this important free program in their neighborhood while entertaining their children with numerous activities and crafts. There will also be raffles, interactive learning stations, parent resources; and free books, backpacks, and assorted school supplies to celebrate and encourage literacy. Snacks will also be provided to the children.

In the South Bronx, Jumpstart works with three university partners, Monroe College, Fordham University, and Lehman College to recruit and train 126 college students to serve over 245 young children in local early learning centers. These same college students will be running the literacy activities and crafts at Jumpstart for a Day.

Jumpstart for a Day will be held at Phipps Neighborhood Recreation Center at Crotona Park, which is located at 1700 Fulton Avenue in the Bronx. More than 100 children are expected at this year’s event.
