CommuniTea Time

Wednesday, May 4, 4:00pm to 7:00pm

Bronx-based artist Michele Brody presents CommuniTea, a performance series featuring a shared tea service during which participants share loose-leaf tea with the artist and relate their stories, memories, thoughts, poems, and reflections, to be transcribed onto repurposed tea stained paper filters.

In conjunction with the artist’s exhibition Reflections in Tea, on view at the Bronx Museum through May 29.

 

Bronx Trolley Night

Wednesday, May 4, 5:30pm to 7:30pm

Hop off The Bronx Trolley: First Wednesdays Arts & Culture Tour at the Bronx Museum for free guided tours by artist Valeri Larko of her exhibition Bronx Focus: Paintings by Valeri Larko and photographer Martine Fougeron of her exhibition Martine Fougeron: The South Bronx Trades.

Bronx-based artist Michele Brody will also be hosting CommuniTea Time, part of a series in which the artist encourages participants to share tea and exchange stories that are then transcribed onto a tea filter quilt, in conjunction with her exhibition Reflections in Tea.

 

Senior Thursdays: CommuniTea with Simone Coonrod

In celebration of Senior Citizen’s Month, join us every Thursday in May for a special presentation of CommuniTea, an interactive performance series by Bronx-based artist Michele Brody. Come to one or all of the four programs, each of which will feature a tea service, snacks, and a collaborative activity culminating on May 26th.

Dancer Simone Coonrod, a known figure in the New York City swing dancing scene of the 1990s, will perform to an audience-produced poem.

 

First Fridays! In Collaboration with The Moth

First Fridays

Join us for a Bronx StorySLAM hosted by The Moth. Arrive by 7pm for the opportunity to put your name in The Moth “hat”.  At 7:30pm names are picked, and one by one, storytellers take the stage to tell a five minute story about the theme of the evening, MAMA RULES!. Of the ten featured storytellers, one winner is chosen.

The Bronx’s Main Street: Walking the Grand Concourse with Sam Goodman

Saturday, May 7, Meet in the Bronx Museum North Wing Lobby at 11:00am

As part of Jane’s Walk Weekend—a series of free guided tours held each year in memory of urban activist Jane Jacobs—Bronx native and urban planner in the Office of the Bronx Borough President Sam Goodman will lead a tour of the Grand Concourse. While visiting key sites along this major thoroughfare, Goodman will provide a brief history of the Grand Concourse and explain the development of its diverse neighborhoods and communities.

This week, Gary Glazner of the Alzheimer’s Poetry Project will collaborate with audience members on interactive poetry pieces.

How to be an Artist and Not Lose your Mind is a one-night workshop run by artist William Lee (Master Lee) for artists, writers, musicians, actors, and performers. How to be an Artist… will address some of the creative being’s greatest concerns – how to make a living, how to find and express your character, how to deal with hecklers, how to manage the emotional strain of being an artist. Come to meet your fellow artists and keep your mind intact.

This week, Movement of the People will lead a dance performance to a live reading of the group poem created during the May 12th program.

Boogie on the Boulevard

Get ready to Boogie! On May 29, June 26, July 31, and August 28, 2016, the last Sundays of each month, the center lanes of the Grand Concourse starting at 162nd Street will be closed to cars and open to a world of fun with free music, art and fitness programs hosted by organizations from the Bronx and beyond.
