Daily Fantasy Sports Gets Congressional Hearing

The chairman of the Fantasy Sports Trade Association, whose members include DraftKings and FanDuel, will testify today before a House Energy and Commerce subcommittee about daily fantasy sports leagues. The committee is examining the industry following an insider-trading scandal at DraftKings and FanDuel. (via The Huffington Post).

NJ Rep. Frank Pallone and others in Congress want to explore why MLB, the NBA, the NHL and several NFL teams have invested in or partnered with the companies despite the legal uncertainty around the industry and their opposition to legalized sports wagering in an ongoing federal court case involving Pallone’s home state of New Jersey. (Last year, Rep. Pallone introduced legislation to amend the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act, another major federal gambling law.)
