STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR ANDREW M. CUOMO ON MEMORIAL DAY

“On Memorial Day, we honor the selfless men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. Because of their courage, America remains a thriving democracy and a steadfast beacon of freedom around the world. On behalf of all New Yorkers, I extend my deepest condolences and gratitude to the families of our fallen heroes.

“On this day and every day, we remember the lives of soldiers we’ve lost and offer our sincere appreciation to those who are currently performing difficult and dangerous missions in distant lands. These service members continue to safeguard our way of life and their patriotism makes all of us proud to be Americans.”

Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman issued the following statement in observance of Memorial Day:

“Today we remember and honor the fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives to protect our freedoms and defend our country. Their courage will not be forgotten, and today we stand with those families who have lost loved ones and share in their grief. And let this holiday also remind us of our duty to support the men and women selflessly serving on the front lines, while protecting and caring for our wounded warriors who have returned home.”

“Memorial Day is a time to honor and remember all those who served our country and gave the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our great nation. The veterans we honor today gave their lives so we may live safely at home. We must acknowledge these sacrifices, and provide and protect those who risked everything to protect our freedom.

Today and everyday, we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice and extend our deepest gratitude for their service.”

Mayor de Blasio delivered remarks at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum Memorial Day wreath laying ceremony this morning.
