Alexis de Tocqueville (1805)

Tocqueville, French political thinker and historian, is best known for his works, Democracy in America and The Old Regime and the Revolution, in which he discusses rising living standards and the social conditions of individuals in western society. The former is considered an early work of sociology and political science. Tocqueville was active in French politics until his retirement following Napoleon Bonaparte’s coup in 1851. More…
