Bronx Man Pleads Guilty to Sex Trafficking and Assault Charges

A Bronx man pleaded guilty to sex trafficking and assault charges yesterday in connection with a prostitution ring he helped run with his cousin and a separate slashing executed while incarcerated on Rikers Island.

Shakiem Washington, the convicted, together with his cousin, Daniel Washington, coerced a young woman they found abandoned in Atlantic City into sex work, forcing her to work as a prostitute across Hunts Point, Brooklyn and Queens from early 2011 until June of the same year.

Washington later would go on enlist help of three other inmates to attack and cut the face of another in 2015 while incarcerated in the George R. Vierno Center on Rikers Island.

He could face up to seven years for the sex trafficking charges and four for the assault when he is sentenced later this year and will be a designated sex offender with three years of supervision upon his release.
