Profile America: World Dairy Day

Tuesday, October 4 —  Madison, Wisconsin truly has got milk.  Today is the opening of the 50th annual gathering of the World Dairy Expo in the Wisconsin capital.  Evolved out of the World Food Expo in 1967, the exposition is expected to draw well over 70,000 attendees from 90 countries. Farmers, producers and visitors will see some of the best dairy cattle, exchange ideas and knowledge, and learn about genetics, profit margins, and even cow comfort.  Nearly 875 companies participate in the trade show to promote the latest industry technology.   America’s dairy product manufacturing employs about 132,000 people in over 1,700 establishments.  The annual value of all this milk, cheese, butter and more is over $124 billion.
