Bronx – Food Fitness & Faith Summit. NYC Department of Health and Mental Health

On Monday, October 24, the New York City Health Department’s Bronx Neighborhood Health Action Center, the Office of Faith Based Initiatives and the Bronx Multi-Faith Advisory Group, is hosting the Second Annual Food, Fitness and Faith Summit from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Lower Gallery of the Bronx Museum.

Good health is an important part of a life of service and faith. However, disease continues to affect city communities unequally. The Bronx has among the worst health outcomes for many major health issues in New York City, from diabetes to cancer to HIV/AIDS. It is estimated that annually 14 percent of Bronx residents have been diagnosed with diabetes and one-third have been diagnosed with high blood pressure. During last year’s summit, participants promised to address these issues.

This year, the City Health Department is continuing its efforts to build a community that is spiritually and physically healthy. The Food, Fitness and Faith Summit will establish a call to action and ask participants to take specific steps to improve the health of Bronx congregations. The Health Department will provide support and capacity building throughout the year so that the goal of improving the health of Bronx residents is reached.

Interested community, church, and lay leaders are asked to RSVP for themselves or their Community or Faith Based Organization or for more information, contact Saul Rivera at 646-316-6781 or email click here.

Both breakfast and lunch will be provided at this event.
