UFT TEACHER CENTER OPENS ON RICHARD R. GREEN MIDDLE SCHOOL CAMPUS

BRONX – A ribbon cutting ceremony was held this morning at the UFT Teacher Center in the Leaders of Tomorrow School on the Richard R. Green Middle School Campus, 3710 Barnes Ave., Bronx.

This is the first UFT Teacher Center to open within the school. “In prior years, I would have loved to provide this kind of support for teachers but was limited by budget and school size,” said Principal Sean Licata. “Ms. Nicole Cameron, my UFT teacher center teacher, was previously a model teacher at the school.”

“We all learn through sharing and this is a perfect facility for teachers to come together, share learning tools and experiences,” said Council Member Andy King, who attended the ribbon cutting in his 12th Council District.

The UFT Teacher Center, now in its 38th year, is a comprehensive professional development program that promotes teacher excellence and academic achievement for all students. The UFT Teacher Center operates throughout the five boroughs of New York City in some 130 school-based sites and numerous borough-based locations.

Drawing on current research and best practices, the UFT Teacher Center’s professional development activities for educators are designed to deepen content knowledge and enhance pedagogical skill. Activities range widely and include intensive in-classroom support, after-school study groups, citywide networks, conferences and seminars.

UFT Teacher Center is a collaboration of the United Federation of Teachers, the New York State Education Department, the New York City Department of Education, participating schools and districts, school support organizations and metropolitan area universities and cultural institutions.
