Just when it looked like the St. Joe’s Hawks would hold onto their 3-2 lead over the Fordham Rams, Jason Lundy hit a two run bomb in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Rams a 4-3 walk-off victory.

The win gives the Rams the first of a three-game series this Easter weekend, at Houlihan Park, in the Bronx.  Fordham also snaps an eight game losing streak against the Hawks and improves their record to 16-13 (5-4 A-10).

Fordham’s bullpen played a key role in the victory giving the team five shut out innings in relief of starter Mike Cowell. Relievers Shane McDonald and Brandon Martin pitching four scoreless innings.

Fordham’s Kyle Martin came into pitch the top half of the ninth preventing the Hawks from getting an insurance run; stranding two St. Joe’s base runners after striking out Charlie Concannon for the third out.

With the decision Martin recorded his fifth win of the season, improving his record to 5-1.

St. Joe’s Brian Lau entered the game in relief of Zach DeVincenzo.  Lau got off to a good start, striking out Reiss Knehr for the first out.  His next two pitches were strikes, placing Fordham’s Ryan Mahoney in a 0-2 hole.  Mahoney, who had struck out twice earlier in the game, would battle back and work out a walk, putting the tying run on first and brought Lundy to bat representing the winning run.

With a one ball and one strike count, Lundy hit a drive to left field over the outstretched glove of the St. Joe’s leftfielder, Cal Jadacki, for his third homerun of the season.   Alvin Melendez, who had come in to pinch-run for Mahoney, scored on Jason Lundy’s shot, kicking off the home plate celebration by the Rams.
