Chairman Crowley on Passage of  the Republican Health Care Bill

(Washington, DC) – House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley (D-NY) issued the following statement after House Republicans voted for a health care bill that would make coverage significantly more expensive and of less quality for million Americans.

“This was a terrible day for our country. The American people have made clear, over and over again, that their health care is more important than political games. Unfortunately, Republicans have chosen not to listen to their constituents – much less the health policy experts, patient organizations, doctors, hospitals, seniors, farmers, and more – who have warned against this disastrous bill with its deep and offensive flaws, like taking away health coverage for 24 million people, forcing seniors to pay up to five times more for their health care, and encouraging states to take away the most basic protections of what health plans should be expected to cover.

“It is deeply troubling that this bill was rushed through without a full, non-partisan accounting of its damage. Despite today’s vote, I remain hopeful that as the bill’s full flaws come to light, Republicans will abandon the damaging path they are on and instead work with Democrats in a truly constructive way to strengthen our health care system and ensure quality, affordable health care for all Americans.”
