Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club  has endorsed Bronx Democrat Amanda Farias for City Council in the 18th Council District. Farias holds endorsements from the National Organization for Women New York City, Council Member Elizabeth Crowley, Council Member Helen Rosenthal, VoteProChoice, and Filipino American Democratic Club of New York.

Amanda is a true progressive with the proven track record fighting for those who need it most. She has a long history working with the LGBTQ community on issues ranging from LGBTQ educational programming, securing funding for prominent LGBTQ organizations and initiatives and fighting for equal protections in the workplace. Amanda will fight for those who are underserved and push back against hate in District 18 and throughout this City. Simply put, Amanda Farias is the real deal,” said Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club President Allen Roskoff.

Owles member Aries Dela Cruz said the election in City Council District 18 is about LGBTQ rights.

“As Pride Month draws to a close, one of the best ways we can celebrate and protect our the LGBTQ community’s hard-earned progress is to strongly support Amanda Farias for City Council.”

Ms. Farias is opposed by Sen. Rev. Rubén Díaz, Michael Beltzer, and Elvin Garcia, the only openly gay candidate in the race. The Democratic primary is September 12, 2017.

UPDATE: The Garcia campaign did not respond to the Bronx Chronicle`s request for comment on the Jim Owles Club endorsement going to Ms. Farias.
