Mount Vernon Students Start the New Year Off Right with New Playground

The students of Pennington School in Mount Vernon have a new place to play thanks to the efforts of Senator Jeff Klein who successfully fought for $95,000 for a brand new playground.

The state-of-the-art playground is suitable for use by up 50 children at a time with two sections that will be designed for grades 1-3 and grades 4-6 respectively.

The upgraded facility was just one part of a larger to project that includes the renovation of the nearby Pennington School baseball field. The entire initiative was made possible with $173,600 in funding secured by Senator Klein in the state budget.

Senator Klein was joined at the recent unveiling by Dr. Kenneth Hamilton, Superintendent of Mount Vernon Schools; Ilene Bichler, Principal of Pennington School; Adriane Saunders, Board of Education President; Ewoma Jones, PTA parent and Sandra O’Connor, Parent Liaison.
