Close Call for Pelham Parkway Shoppers

Holiday shoppers along the busy Pelham Parkway business district had to dive for cover, as an automobile mounted the sidewalk and struck two storefronts.

Police and fire departments units were dispatched to 717 Lydig Avenue, at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 2.

The vehicle struck the entrance of the Yaffa Deli and Grocery and the BJ Gift Shop, which are both at the corner of Lyding Avenue and Cruger Avenue. Store owners reported minimal damage from the mishap. The cause of the crash was not immediately determined.

According to one NYPD source, “The vehicle mounted the sidewalk and struck two storefronts.” The official maintained that no pedestrians were struck and the driver remained at the scene.

The official added that the crash was deemed and accident and no arrests or summonses were issued.
