CM King Said to be Target of City Council Ethics Probe

The NY Post reports that the City Council’s Standards and Ethics Committee is probing sexual harassment allegations against Bronx Councilman Andy King (D-Baychester/Co-op City). On Thursday, NY1 reported that the closed-door meeting was called for 1 PM Friday, after a complaint was lodged against a then-unidentified city council member last week.

The ethics committee’s agenda refers to a matter regarding section 10.80 of the Council Rules. The rule covers everything from theft of city services, to sexual harassment.

The Post reports that the probe isn’t King’s first brush with sexual harassment accusations. The tabloid noted that in 2015, a former Council staffer filed a notice of claim with the Comptroller’s Office and was planning to sue the city for $1.25 million for being fired by King after rebuffing his unwanted advances. At the time, the ex-staffer worked for the City Council’s Black, Latino and Asian Caucus, which King co-chaired.

The unidentified staffer told The Post, ““Andy King created a hostile work environment by sexually harassing and intimidating claimant,” the notice stated. “King also made demeaning, sexist remarks toward claimant.” She also claimed at the time not to be the sole victim of his unwanted advances.

By the time of this post, CM King had not responded to a request for comment through a spokesperson.
