State of the Union Address

If you are a Republican or a Bernie Sanders Democrat who voted for Donald Trump, you loved it. If you are a Democrat or number in the majority of people who vote in New York or California, you hated it.

Democratic Response to the State of the Union Address

Could we be seeing another Kennedy on the road to the White House? US Rep. Joseph P. Kennedy III (D-Mass) gave the Democratic rebuttal. Meanwhile, many party activists probably thought: “Why didn’t a woman give the Democratic Response”?

The Rest of the ‘State of …” Speeches

We’ve already heard the State of the State Speech from Governor Cuomo. Next up are the State of the City (de Blasio), State of the Borough (Diaz), and if you are lucky (or unlucky) you may even get a State of the District address from your local elected officials.

IDC Forever?

With challenges this year already to four of the eight Independent Democratic Conference members, including its leader State Senator Jeff Klein, Sen. Marisol Alcantara, Sen. Jose Peralta, and Sen. Jesse Hamilton, can other challenges to the other four IDC members be far behind. John Liu challenged IDC member Tony Avella two years ago, while there were threats of primary to IDC member David Carlucci. Klein now has two challengers from the Riverdale area of his district. Alcantara is being challenged by former Councilman Robert Jackson, again. Avilla is being challenged by Jessica Ramos who quit her job as a former press secretary to Mayor de Blasio. Hamilton’s opponent is Brooklyn Democratic committee member Zellnor Myrie. With Mayor Bill de Blasio — who has openly said that he wants to see one Democratic Conference — and the Working Familes Party involved against the IDC, one has to wonder the fate of the IDC staying “independent.”
