New York Stands With Puerto Rico

There were several We Stand With Puerto Rico events statewide today. Governor Andrew Cuomo chose to be with his friend Ruben Diaz Jr. in the South Bronx. Also on hand were several Bronx elected officials and the Governor of Puerto Rico Richardo Rossello who spoke about the continuing needs of the people of Puerto Rico.

The event held in the Casita Maria Center for the Arts and Education was opened by Congressman Jose Serrano who spoke of the lack of response by the current administration to the needs of the residents of Puerto Rico.

Governor Andrew Cuomo when he spoke said Puerto Rico deserves better from the federal government. There were chants of Cuomo for President while he was talking. He added that New York is doing whatever it can to help the island country which was ravaged by not one, but two major hurricanes.

The Governor of Puerto Rico who was on hand called upon Puerto Ricans nationwide to organize for Puerto Rico. He then added that Puerto Ricans need to register to vote, and come to vote every election so they can have a say in what goes on.

Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. said that it should not matter if you like the Red Sox or Yankees, any team in the Super Bowl, are of any religion or political party to help the people of Puerto Rico. He turned to and thanked former baseball player Carlos Beltran for the foundation set up to help the people of Puerto Rico recover.

While the room was packed there were a few demonstrators who were escorted outside when the governor of Puerto Rico spoke, claiming that hundreds of people are missing while the island is still in chaos.
